List of Claimable Expenses

Examples of different business expenses which might be claimable.  This list is not exhaustive and is subject to strict HMRC rules.  Hence these may not be applicable in every circumstance.  

Also be aware that some items such as use of home as office etc may result in Capital Gains Tax / Business Rates or other forms of taxation which may increase taxation.  Always refer to HMRC guidance for specifics based on your business structure and activity.

  • Home office (simplified expenses or proportionate costs)
  • Electricity and gas (business use)
  • Water rates (if applicable)
  • Council tax (home office portion for sole traders)
  • Broadband (business share)
  • Landline (business share)
  • Mobile phone (business only)
  • Stationery
  • Printer ink
  • Computer hardware
  • Laptops
  • Tablets
  • Software licences
  • Accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks)
  • Cloud storage
  • Anti-virus/subscription security
